Tony Stewart in scary pit-road collision with crewman

When you're walking on a sidewalk next to traffic, how much space do you keep between you and the cars passing? Five feet? Ten? On pit road, guys are jacking cars and changing tires with literally inches between them and cars flying past, and every so often, things go a bit awry. Tony Stewart was pulling out of his pits when he collided with one of David Reutimann's tire carriers:

Fortunately, the crewman was just fine, though it had to have been a scary moment, what with his head just inches from Smoke's tire. But credit, once again, NASCAR's move toward greater safety -- people have died on pit road, but helmets, speed limits and firesuits have cut way down on catastrophic injury. On Saturday night, all that Reutimann's crewman received were a couple bruises ... and a fine story to tell.
