At least one Earnhardt is still out there winning races

Taylor Earnhardt, youngest daughter of Dale and Teresa Earnhardt, continues the tradition of carrying the family name to the winner's circle. But she tends to prefer one horse to 750.

This past June Taylor and her horse, Packin' Sixes Cowboy, competed in Marshall, Texas in barrel racing, calf ribbon roping, and pole-bending events. Her combined score in the three events made her the world champion in her field.

However, she can occasionally be persuaded into a car.

The No. 3 Richard Childress Chevy with the familiar Mr. Goodwrench logos was at Goodwood in England on July 4th at the estate of Britain's Lord Charles March for the annual Festival of Speed, with Taylor at the wheel. The Festival is an annual hill climb featuring historic motor racing vehicles that is held on the grounds of Goodwood House, West Sussex, England. It was started in 1993 by the present Earl of March in order to bring motor racing back to the Goodwood estate, a location steeped in British motor racing history.

Taylor said it was an honor to be at England's Goodwood Festival of Speed and to drive the car her late father made famous. She completed two runs in the first day of the 17th annual festival in the Richard Childress Racing No. 3 Goodwrench Chevrolet. That particular car happened to be the exact one in which Earnhardt won his 76th and final Cup race at Talladega Superspeedway in October 2000. Danny Lawrence, an engine builder with Earnhardt-Childress Racing Engines, and Rich Burgess, shop manager for Jeff Burton's No. 31 Caterpillar Chevrolet team, took responsibility for getting their old boss's car prepared and set up for the event.

After the race, Richard Childress was quoted as saying, "I was honored to be asked by Lord March to have one of legendary RCR black No. 3 Chevrolets participate in this year's Goodwood Festival of Speed. This is a great opportunity to promote the legacy of Dale Earnhardt not only in the United States but throughout the world."

We may never see her behind the wheel of a Cup car. But it's nice to know there's still an Eanhardt out there winning.
