Four Wide: Talladega faces the wrecking ball, sort of

Bringing you the best in NASCAR news and information. Get your day rolling right ... or left, whichever.

• They're smashing Talladega? Wait, guys, we weren't mad at the track, it was the rules! There's no need to trash the whole ... what's that? This is a planned renovation? Oh, cool. Carry on, then. [Catchfence

• Carquest Auto Parts has extended its sponsorship of Mark Martin's No. 5 through the 2011 season for eight races per season. By then, Martin will be, what, 103? And still competitive, dammit! [Scene Daily

Reed Sorenson is racing in the Nationwide Series this weekend for the first time in three years. Would it be wrong to say that Sorenson might want to get comfortable in a Nationwide seat? [NASCAR.com via Yahoo! Sports]

• International Speedway Corp. is planning to resell that New York City-area property it had wanted to use for a race track for an estimated $80 million. Sounds great ... until you remember they paid nearly $110 million for it. [Staten Island Advance

• This is pretty cool: Richard Petty is going to drive a World War II Jeep at Phoenix, which'll then be auctioned off. (The Jeep, not Petty.) Somehow, this thing is going to lead the field; I didn't think World War II Jeeps could make that kind of speed, but we'll see, won't we? [Scene Daily]

• An article about the positive impact that NASCAR is having on a community? This writer obviously didn't get the memo that no positivity about NASCAR is allowed whatsoever. [KTAR]
