This is Michael Jordan twisting his ankle in the fourth quarter, Tiger Woods knocking himself in the head with his driver on the 17th hole. With only three races remaining in the Chase, Jimmie Johnson had his fourth straight Cup sewn up if he averaged a top-10 finish. All that would have to happen would be Jimmie suffering through an early wreck -- but that couldn't possibly happen, right? Not to Jimmie!
Uh-oh:
Johnson's debacle opened the door wide for Mark Martin and Jeff Gordon to make a run at the top spot; while Johnson couldn't lose the lead no matter what happened, the wreck makes the last two races much more than a victory lap for the 48 -- and makes last week's wreck at Talladega that much more significant. Had that not happened, Johnson would be third or fourth in the points after today.
Hold tight, folks. This ain't over yet.
