Enough is enough. I am tired of seeing Kyle Busch win every race, I am tired of seeing Cup drivers fill the entire top 10 in each Nationwide race, and I am tired of young drivers being forgotten because sponsors want the Cup stars.
No one can blame companies for wanting Cup drivers in a car with their logo on it. But we CAN blame the Cup drivers, owners, and NASCAR for allowing the series to become what it is today. If Cup drivers want their Sprint Cup title to mean anything, they will allow the sport to grow. As it is now, NASCAR will have no new talent by 2015. The Nationwide Series will be a glorified Happy Hour practice for the Cup cars. It might just be me, but I'd rather watch something else. I'd rather watch drivers who actually have something at stake when they get in their car, not drivers going out and playing for 2 hours and then get their panties in a bunch when they finish second. I want to see a kid win their first race on live television and see the true emotion as a result.
Does anyone remember that battle between Brad Coleman and Stephen Leicht years ago in Kentucky? Remember how exciting that was. Both kids wanted to win so bad, yet they met in Victory Lane and congratulated each other. It was the best Busch race of the season that year, and Kyle Busch was nowhere to be seen. Do you remember who won the NW Rookie of the Year last season. Well Landon Cassill can't back that up this year because Dale Jr put himself and washed up Scott Wimmer in his ride instead.
If the drivers don't care, then maybe the owners will care when their current crop of drivers all start to suck and they have nobody to replace them with because they put their Cup driver in their NW car. Doesn't sound so brilliant of a business move now does it?
If the drivers and owners dont get the program, then NASCAR needs to step up to the plate and change the NW series themselves. How long will it take NASCAR to realize that allowing young drivers to be left on the sidelines in favor of stuck-up Cup drivers whining all the time won't exactly be better for the sport in 5 years. Bite the bullet, don't let the Cup drivers run in the NW series full time. Limit them to 10 races a year. If sponsors start drying up then so be it. It is needed to ensure NASCAR survives when Dale Jr, Jeff Gordon, Johnson, and Stewart have all retired.
So, either fix the Nationwide series or watch it die. There is always a golf tournament on Saturday evenings to watch, I don't need to watch Kyle Busch's daily mood fluctuations, nor do I want to.
