POST-RACE RECAP/LOWE'S MOTOR SPEEDWAY DATE:  May 16, 2009
RACE: Sprint All-Star Race
START: Fourth
FINISH: 10th
RECAPPING THE RACE:
Dale Earnhardt Jr. crossed the finish line 10th during Saturday's NASCAR Sprint All-Star Race at Lowe's Motor Speedway to collect his ninth top-10 finish in 10 events.
The non-points event featured NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race winners from 2008-2009 seasons, the top two finishers from the Sprint Showdown qualifying race and the winner of the Sprint All-Star Fan Vote. Earnhardt, who was eligible for the event after winning the 2008 June race at Michigan International Speedway, lined up his white Chevrolet on the outside of row two. He earned the fourth-place starting spot after posting the fourth-fastest time in Friday's qualifying event, which consisted of three laps and a four-tire pit stop.
The first of four segments was 50 laps with a required four-tire pit stop. Earnhardt was quick to move into the second position on Lap 1, but a loose-handling condition hampered his forward progress. Despite the handling woes, he maintained his footing inside the top 10. On Lap 26, the field made its way down pit road for the mandatory pit stop. Earnhardt was running ninth when he pulled in for four fresh tires, an air pressure adjustment, fuel and a chassis adjustment. Quick work by the team netted Earnhardt one spot on pit road.
The first segment concluded on Lap 50, Earnhardt was running seventh. The field made its way down pit road under the caution period, and crew chief Tony Eury called for four fresh tires, fuel and an air pressure adjustment. A loose lug nut prolonged the pit stop, and Earnhardt lined up 16th for the 20-lap second segment.
The 34-year old driver climbed to the 14th position in the second segment, although the handling on the No. 88 Chevy was swinging to the tight side. At the conclusion of segment two on Lap 70, Eury made the strategic call to take two tires to gain valuable track position. Earnhardt improved three spots when the green flag was waved.
Earnhardt continued to battle a tight-handling condition in segment three but climbed the leaderboard to eighth as the field headed to the 10-lap final segment showdown. Earnhardt held steady in the top 10.
