Reader rant: Why are we already crowning Jimmie Johnson?

[Editor's note: Every so often, we turn a post over to you, the devoted Marbles reader. Today, we welcome in the mysterious "Moon," who gives us her take on the Chase.]

Why is everyone so ready to hand the championship to Jimmie Johnson? We have seven races left in the Chase, with less than 250 points separting 1st place from 10th place. And they are ready to write everyone off but Johnson. Really? With seven races left, when anything can happen. We do not want Johnson shoved down our throats as the winner with seven races left! Sportscasters and writers are ready to give Johnson the championship, but I'm not, and I think a lot of fans are with me. Let's take a look at this again, from a fan's point of view. Here is how I see it:

Montoya: He is hell-bent on getting to the front, and is racing the best he has since coming into NASCAR. He's not the underdog; he's off his leash, and ready to win that championship.

Martin: He's in fine form, doing better then men half his age, and does not seem to be stopping anytime soon.

Kahne: He's in 11th place, but he's hungry for a championship. Sure, things seem to be all up in the air for his owner, but if he can focus on just the next six races, he'll be fine.

Kurt Busch: The dark horse. The guy we love to hate. I think he has some good qualities, somewhere deep down inside. But he's a good driver and a smart racer. There are a lot of questions swirling around him right now due to the crew chief issue.

Hamlin: He had came out of the gate swinging, but he had hard races at Dover and Fontana. If he does not let it get to him, I think he can bounce back

Newman: He needs to dig deep and pull up the confidence. He has been running solid most of the year, he just needs to step it up.

Biffle: I wonder sometimes about him. But I do realize he has a racer's spirit. Never gives up, just keeps digging. He needs the confidence a win brings.

Edwards: It has to hurt his ego that he had 9 wins last year, and none so far this year. But I do believe he can pull out of this. He just needs to get back to basics.

Vickers: He's proven to us he can race. His worst enemy? Himself. He seems to be trying to talk himself out of this championship. This is not something his crew needs to hear. He needs to put it all away and just concentrat on the next six races.

Then we have two veteran drivers that have won six championships between them:

Gordon: A lot of people think he has lost the hunger, that becoming a father has taken his focus away. But I do not believe that at all. He seems more determined and happier this year. And I do believe that is translating to the track. He has been driving almost like the Gordon of old. I do believe that he can make a run for it.

Stewart: Have you guys not learned yet to quit counting Stewart out? You said at the beginning of the year that he wouldn't win, much less make a bid for the championship. Well, you're bitting your tongue now! Stewart's first two championships were won under some sort of adversity. He thrives under that. And when people start counting him out, telling him he will not make it, is when Stewart shows them who he really is.

Last, but not least, Johnson. Sure, he's won the last three years running. But his ticket will come up; he cannot always win. If you don't believe me, ask Kyle Busch. But he has some strong competition, moreso than any of the previous three years.

To this fan, the playing field for everyone is even. And anyone could still win.
